Seeing the tremendous growth in the tablet market, Acer too is now trying to reap the benefits of the hot market. It’s been heard that Acer set to launch a tablet priced at $99.

Acer, the world’s fourth largest PC maker is reportedly working on developing two new tablets that are to be launched by early next year. After the tablet is launched, Acer will become the first big brand to launch a tablet at such a small price.

Acer Set to Launch a Tablet

A source told Wall Street Journal that the tablet will be titled the Iconia B1 and will be in direct competition with Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD and Barnes and Noble’s Nook Color. The specs of the Iconia B1 tablet will almost be similar to these two best selling tablets with a price tag of $139, but will surely make a big difference considering the Iconia B1 is priced at $99.

The Iconia B1 tablet will be around seven inches in size with a resolution of 1024 x 600 and will be powered upby a 1.2 GHz dual core processor. The tablet will be running on the much popular Android operating system, may be on Jelly Bean.

The blue-edged Iconia B1 tab looks beautiful when the images appeared on a forum. The authenticity were confirmed by a person closely familiar with the project.

The tablet will surely take a dig on other big tablets like the Google Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD and Nook HD and would attract the customers by showing them a lower price tag. The Taiwanese company is playing it safe by offering the similar specs at a much lower price.

WSJ feels that Acer Iconia B1 will target the emerging markets and maybe they will miss out on the States of Europe. Besides the Iconia B1, the company is planning to launch an Intel-based Windows 8 tablet, which too will be a low-priced one, early next year. This will start another competition seeing the Windows market dominated by Microsoft Surface tablets.

The low price of the tablets will surely bite into Acer’s profit numbers but if all they want is a big market share in the growing market in countries like India and China, then this strategy will work best in the end.

Let’s see what you have got to say on this. Drop your feedback below about the Acer Iconia B1 tablet.

  1. This is interesting. It’s gonna give Google Nexus 7 some tough competition. I wonder what could be the spec of this new tab.
